FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

At our first meeting I will get to know your musical background and what you want to do with your singing. We will talk about genres you want to specialize in. I usually have students sing their favorite songs in the first session so I can see what they have learned, what their strengths and weaknesses are. I make note of what, if any, bad habits are present. Then I devise a plan that is specifically catered to the student.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I will be receiving my bachelors in Vocal Performance in December from California State University East Bay. I have taught students for about three years and recorded and performed with various bands. I am working on my full length album made up entirely of songs I have written myself. The album will be released in spring 2020.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My regular pricing is $25-$35 for a 30 minute session. But I will negotiate based on how frequent the sessions are and what kind of travel time is included.

How did you get started teaching?

I started teaching because advanced singers were being referred to me at a school where I was taking guitar lessons. Soon enough I had so many students I had to start giving group lessons.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with ages 9-60. I have worked with people who just wanted to sing as a hobby and those who wanted to be professionals. I have taught bi-lingual people. I have taught both sacred and secular singers. I welcome all students.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

I would say talk to the teacher first and see if they are the right fit. Be open about what you are looking for and if you don’t know ask. Every teacher will have something to offer that could help you.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Think about where you are musically? What are you looking to improve? What are your short term and long term goals?
