Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I interviewed students level and give them different music books to start the lesson. I will decide the length of the lesson depending on their age and level.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from Manhattan School of Music in New York. I received my master degree of piano performance and started teaching since I am still a student. I learned to use different method to teach different children. Even though I learned from classical music, I also teach Disney songs, children's songs, jazz, worship songs from Christian music, to classical music. Music can be learned in any way and want my students to love the piece they are learning until they moved on to intermediate level.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charged $35.00 for an half hour lesson depending on their level. I only charge 4 lessons every month no matter if there is 3 or 5 weeks. I will let students take summer vacation and only count the weeks they came to the lesson. If they are sick, they can have make up lesson when they feel better.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching from music schools from New York, to California. Since I have kids, I started teaching at home because I have to stay at home most of the time.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have students from age of 5 to grandma. As long as they love music, I am willing to teach them.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I had a concert in Taiwan this summer. My dad is an artist and I used " Pictures at the Exhibition" by Mussorgsky to perform including his paintings over 100 of them to display. I also invited some performers to play 4 hand one piano pieces by Debussy and Faure. We had a full house of audience and they all enjoyed the way how I present with music and art altogether.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Please ask the teacher what kind of music are you interested and try to know how many years of teaching experience they had.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What kind of keyboard or piano do I need to start the piano lesson? How long I need to practice everyday? Do I need to bring any music or notebook?
