Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
On a regular 1 hour lesson, we take 20 min to review previous assignment, 20 minutes to learn new technique & material, 20 min to make sure the student is able to sufficiently work on the assignment independently until the next lesson.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
20+ years of violin playing. Bachelor of music performance (college music degree)
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$80/hour if within 15min of driving distance.
How did you get started teaching?
I love music and sharing it with others. I was first asked by a friend and it soon expanded with other personal referrals.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds. My youngest student was 5 and oldest 82. My other work was also focused on working children & youth, so I specialize with working with children & youth.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The greatest compliment I received from students and their families is that I make it fun. I find most joy when I am able to share my joy in music and spark that joy in students and their families.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You should try one lesson with them to see if they are the right fit for you and your family. Each student and teacher are so very unique and special in their own way, yet need to make sure that they can fit and work together. Try a few teachers before you decide on a teacher as it is a longterm-investment.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Group effort. I make sure that all parties (student, parent, teacher) are setting the same short-term and long-term goals to ensure everyone is on the same page and striving towards the same direction.
