About
Hi, I'm Michael Le Van. Here's a quick bio: I have been playing jazz and classical piano for over 50 years, have taught piano for 35 years, and have a degree in piano performance and composition. I have been a full-time musician my entire life, I've released 7 published CD's, and have had my own jazz trio since 1986. I am experienced in teaching both classical and jazz improvisation, and take into account each students individual needs. I teach all levels from beginners to advanced, all ages.
I enjoy watching my students progress over time. I also like getting to know them as individuals. My playing is an important part of who I am and sharing that as a teacher makes me happy. I have indepth experience and knowledge for those who just want to learn how to play the piano for recreation or those who want to become professional musicians like myself. I look foward to seeing my students and enjoy sharing my love of music.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I patiently work with my students to explore their potential and build on their skills appropriately. Each student has different needs and I like to tailor lessons for the individual. Together we build on strengths and learn new techniques for overall accomplishments. With a committment to practice, they become well versed at the piano. My students usually continue lessons with me for many years and continue to grow because I tap into their desire to improve.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My bachelore's degrees are in piano performance and composition from California State University Fullerton.
I have also taught piano for 35 years.
