Having sung myself onstage with the great singers at the MET, and chosen, coached, and conducted hundreds of singers for over 4 decades at Virginia Opera -- where I am Artistic Director Emeritus -- I really know how to work quickly and effectively with singers to get their voices to ring freely and to communicate expressively and musically. QUICKLY and SUCCESSFULLY!
Peter Mark’s powerful skill set draws from a varied and comprehensive experience in opera. As Founding General and Artistic Director of Virginia Opera he conducted and mentored young singers -- many who have become world renowned stars like Renee Fleming, Diana Soviero, Lawrence Brownlee, Frederick Burchinal.
It is thrilling to be able to reveal a person's real voice to them -- and to give them the tools for them to express themselves fully and uniquely in whatever music they want to sing!!

It was very productive to work with Peter. One of the things that we were focused was to work on chiaro-scuro that now works very good as an idea and in practice. Also the legato and breath-support. He does pay a lot of attention to those things, and I think that's the key to a beautiful singing. I'm thankful for that! So far, Peter is certainly on of the best I've been able to work with.
I participated in Peter Mark's masterclasses, and he is a real professional who cares about his students. No matter what level of voice you have, or where you are currently in your training, he will help to get the best out of you. He has great intuition about how to handle singers and really gives 100% of his energy in coaching. I greatly appreciate him working with me and consider it a great honor to have been allowed to participate in these classes.
Peter Mark has so many tools and techniques that will help a singer improve their musicianship to a professional level. If you are looking to go the next step I recommend you with Peter.
I recently had the pleasure of collaborating as pianist for Peter Mark's master class for young Opera singers and found him to be highly effective in his ability to elicit the best possible results from each of the participants. Due to his many years of professional experience in the world of Opera, Peter knows exactly what is needed to be heard as far as vocal production and style in the widest possible variety of repertoire, but more importantly, through his unique methods is able to quickly achieve the desired results from each of the singers.
I listen carefully to each new student, assess what they need, make sure it is what they think they need, and then find a way to give them the tools they are missing -- to really know what they are doing vocally --- so that they not only improve their singing but also understand how and why it is working -- so they are from then on in control.
