Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Voice Lessons:
I typically talk with new students about what their singing goals are. I have them sing something for me - always a song the student already knows. While they are singing, I'm accessing exactly what is going on with their voice so I can begin to chart the course of their ongoing lessons.
This is all done in a warm and fun environment. I promise you will enjoy the process.
Piano Lessons:
I teach beginning and intermediate level piano. New students sit at the keyboard while I give them an introduction to the keys and the notes they each correspond to. From there, I introduce them to their first piano book. I also find online tracks to songs students like and teach them how to play chords to accompany these songs. It's proven to be a great blend between the learning notes and scales and quickly being able to play complete songs.
For more advanced students, we skip the key board introduction and jump into higher level piano books and more difficult songs.
I find that students learn very quickly when they're having fun!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
VOICE
My formal vocal training began when I was 11 years old, although I've been singing in public and leading adult choirs since I was 9 years old. The 3 key voice teachers I've had in my life (including world renowned Seth Riggs, who has trained Michael Jackson, Barbra Streisand, Stevie Wonder, and many more) gave me in depth training in a wide variety of music styles including (but not limited to): pop, opera, jazz, country, and much more.
PIANO
My piano training began at the age of 3 when my Granny asked if I wanted to learn how to play. As a 3 year, the idea of getting to bang on the piano sounded like great fun so I said YES! I've been playing ever since. I am classically trained and can play any style of music.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$85 for a 1-hour lesson
$205 for a month of weekly 1/2-hour lessons
$315 for a month of weekly 1-hour lessons
How did you get started teaching?
I have been a professional back-up singer for many years (I toured with Celine Dion as her duet partner for 5 years and Linda Ronstadt on her Millennium Tour...and many, many more artists). Always when I would come off the road for a bit, I would take on voice students since I love sharing what I know.
I now am a full time teacher and I love it.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with every level of student, from professional (well-known artists) to beginners. I also have taught very young children and older adults and of course every age in between.
Each student has his or her own goals with voice and piano and I ensure that they reach them (even it's as simple as "I want to sing better in the car" or as big as auditioning for one of today's television competition shows or I want to accompany myself on piano when I sing).
PIANO
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I always recommend that potential students book a 1/2-hour lesson with me. In this 1/2-hour you'll get to see some of my teaching methods and my voice studio. By the end of the 1/2-hour, I guarantee that you will have learned something very useful and you will know whether or not we're a good fit. I love all my students so you get to decide if you'd like to move forward with ongoing lessons.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your goals with singing and piano?
Your goals can be very simple or very big but you get to decide what they are. I will help you achieve any goal you have when it relates to singing and/or piano.
