About

I am a classically trained music teacher with credentialed music educator experience. Besides teaching in public and private schools, I have worked as a church worship and music director and accompanist. I am a composer and enjoy conducting choirs and orchestras. Best of all, I am an encourager! My teaching is intuitive, creative, positive, and thorough. Students who study with me not only learn to sing and play well. They learn music theory, music history, performance skills, and gain self confidence.

I love the interaction with students! I am an encourager. I enjoy seeing students progress and perform well at recitals.

    Frequently asked questions

When a student is new, I take time to get to know about them, their interests, and their goals. If they have had lessons in the past, I encourage them to play or sing for me. This helps me identify the student's strengths and what the student still needs to learn.

Beginning piano and guitar students learn to read music through a complete curriculum that includes fun songs to play, theory. and technique. I encourage them to explore their instruments, and compose their own music. Students learn both practice and performance skills, and they are participate in several recitals each year.

If the student is a beginning vocalist, I listen to her or him sing a familiar song. I listen and observe carefully to discover the student's unique talent and encourage the student. I will teach the student some fun vocal exercises to strengthen and refine the voice. In just a few lessons. the student is ready to sing songs! We will work on pitch, rhythm, diction, dynamics, expression, and technique. Later we will work on performance skills also.

I sang and studied music throughout elementary and high school. Although my first degree was in English, I participated in college choirs and musicals and studied voice. Then I completed another college degree in music education with an emphasis on voice and conducting. I was enrolled in several universities and studied piano and voice with outstanding and famous performers. I studied guitar and piano and also played and conducted orchestral instruments. I was named Music Education Student of the Year at Cal State Long Beach where I completed my graduate work and earned my state teaching credential. Since then I have taught in public and private schools, conducted choirs and orchestras, composed and directed children's musicals and adult choral music, and taught private students piano, voice, and guitar. My students perform in musical theatre, school and community productions, college music groups, churches, and on TV (even in Disney shows).  They have become college music majors, teachers, church musicians, musical theatre actors, solo and recording artists, and band leaders. It's very rewarding to see my students develop their talents and share their gifts with others! I am proud of my students and pleased with my work with them.
