Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
New students share their interests by filling out a questionnaire. I do not use one method. I use several different methods tailored for the unique learning style for each individual student. I prepare lesson plans weekly, teach how to practice and how to prepare their assignments so they can learn to the best of their ability. I find pieces that will motivate students at their level and to inspire them so they progress. Students learn to sight read, understand rhythm, theory, ear training, technique, compose, and improvise.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned a B.A.DEGREE specialized in music composition from the University of California in Santa Barbara. I have taught for over 40 years, I continue learning and continue pedgogy lessons learning new ways to reach out to students and be the best for my students to learn.

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching in the mid seventies while attending college and put myself through school. I learned how to teach piano by several methods, high quality teachers, which includes my own piano teacher and several pedagogy classes. I earned a BA in music composition from UCSB
What types of students have you worked with?
I teach all ages and levels of education.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am grateful when I feel I have done a good job by motivating a student who did not like to practice. Now she shares her excitement of music with her cousins and friends.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A meet and greet is a requirement before accepting a student into the piano stuido. Student should have a well tuned acoustical piano to practice. Meet with different teachers to meet your learning style before you commit to a life time of learning. Parents and Teachers should be supportive to the student's learning process. Communication is the key.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Review the studio policy to make sure it is a good fit for you. Does the teacher communicate clearly and take a step at a time. Does the teacher have several different types of music to draw upon and what method books does the teacher like to use for beginners.
