About
I have my B.A. in Music, having studied all required courses for Music Education. I have been teaching privately for 6 years. I have taught music to children and adults privately and in public schools. I have years of playing experience, performing in various kinds of ensembles. I am versatile musician, having studied voice, piano and guitar.
I'm interested in you enjoying your music-making, so I take into account your musical dreams and tailor the music I teach to your goals. In addition to playing technique, I include theory and music history as well as performance etiquette. Not only will you learn valuable musical skills, but you'll use what you've learned to share with others in public performance!
Some notable performances include a Carnegie Hall performance on viola with the Doreen Irwin Singers as well as singing under the direction of John Rutter, in his final public performance there. Playing an obligato with the superb vocal group, R.S.V.P., for a local fundraiser was also a meaningful and memorable set of performances. I am a member of a symphony and participate in a local chamber music workshop. I enjoy playing for fundraisers, I play on a worship team and perform regularly in small ensembles.
I desire to touch people's lives with music, enriching and inspiring them through playing and teaching.
I would relish the opportunity to share my love of music and the joy it can bring to your life!
I love to see the progress a student makes from one lesson to the next and from year to year. I enjoy getting to help them learn how to play an instrument they love or even to get them to a place where they love it much more than when they began! It's wonderful to see them overcome obstacles to find they really can do things that at first may not have seemed easy. The bright light that shines through their eyes when they have an "aha!" moment is wonderful. It brings me joy to see my students discover new things each lesson and grow in their playing ability and musical understanding.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by getting to know the student and their goals for taking lessons. I then explain my methods of teaching, my expectations for lessons and practice and go over my studio policy.
If they are a beginner, I start from with the basics of proper playing technique. If the student can already play, I will ask them to play a piece for me.
With a beginner, I teach by rote and then move them into note reading eventually.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.A.in Music, having taken all the required courses for Music Education.
I have also taught privately for six years, with prior tutoring experience on various instruments.
I also have varied performance experience in orchestras, worship bands, small ensembles, and playing duets with piano, guitar and/or vocals for weddings, memorials, benefit concerts and fundraisers and performing instrumentally and vocally with choirs.
