Alec's promise to you is to deliver lessons that are of exceptional quality and student focused!
- You have the choice of receiving in-home piano lessons, or at Alec's home studio. Should you chose Alec's studio, students will have the opportunity to utilize Alec's hardware and software he uses to compose professional music. His students can easily record themselves playing and in real-time, analyze any mistakes they made
- 1-Hour Lessons also include ear-training. In ear training, we develop our inner ear, the ability to accurately hear and identify musical elements in our head while reading, listening to, and thinking about music. This form of training is guaranteed to help your child learn music faster and anticipate various musical elements.
- Learn all the styles of piano; from classical, to jazz, to contemporary and beyond!
- An adult beginner and want to learn? Feel free to join in too!
- Alec combines both the Suzuki Method, and the Faber Method in his teaching. The Suzuki Method focuses on memory, repetition, and ear training while the Faber Method uses helpful visuals to promote learning.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will first go over with the student the days and times for our lessons. After a sufficient schedule has been layed out, I will listen to the student's needs and goals he wants to accomplish. I will personally adjust the cirriculum and session time to fit the student's requirements.
In the first few lessons, my students will be able to:
1. Understand the Foundations of the Piano
2. Effectively Read Notes
3. Recognize Patterns in Music
4. Use Both Hands Fluidly in a Song
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
For over 15 years, I have been instructed by wonderful and experienced piano tutors, such as Tiiu Marie Jankowski and Steve Schmidt. These tutors have passed on and taught me the piano and specific pedagogical skills to teach both children and adult students. I now return the favor to my own students.
I have also been a music composer for film, video-games, and multimedia for the past 3 years and part of the musical band, Klaviam, for over 12 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I offer my lessons at $40 for 45-minutes. Additionally, you may also select:
- $32 for 30-minute lessons
- $50 for 1-hour lessons. Ear-training is included in 1-hour lessons.
How did you get started teaching?
It started with my family of course. My parents were interested in how I created my own songs, so I taught them the basics of both the piano and song composition. Eventually, I moved on with my friends who, excited about learning music, referred me to their other friends.
After gaining support, I started my personal website from which I conduct most of my business through. You can view more details on piano lessons and my story through: www.alecweesner.com
What types of students have you worked with?
Mostly 5-18 year-olds, but I have also worked with younger children, as well as adult students as well.
I also tutor special-needs students of all ages.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Game Developer's Conference (GDC), a video-game event where developer's from all over the globe discuss the development of games. While not quite a recent event, as it starts in about a week. I will be attending as I have in the past. The reason why this event intriques me is because I am working as a video-game composer, so obviously understanding how music is integrated in video-games, and forming contacts with developers is extremely useful for my goals.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Learning the basics of piano cannot be understated. Having a knowledgable piano teacher at your side during the early years of learning an instrument is crucial if you don't want to unlearn bad habits.
Look for key points when looking for awesome tutors: honesty, a kind personality, some discipline when needed. Experience is not the only factor you have to look for when deciding what teacher to sign up to.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Be honest about your practice times. Open up to your instructor about setting a set schedule for practice. Trust me, coming from experience, this is important.
Also, don't be afraid to open up to your teacher about your areas of weakness and goals you want to accomplish. Many teacher, myself included, are more than happy to accomodate any requests for additional instruction.
