Marie Strassenburg, Pianist
About
I'm a Professional Pianist in Southern California and hold degrees in Music and Fine & Applied Arts with a certificate in Piano Performance. I have been playing piano since I was a little girl and have been teaching since 2014. I have since taught over 70 private students and have tutored students in college-level piano and music theory classes. I also write my own curriculum for infant and toddler music fundamentals community classes.
Each of my private piano lesson plans are designed for each student's individual needs and goals and are tailored to fit their interests and be entertaining and effective for successful mastery of the piano!
I currently teach through the University of Redlands Community School of Music and the Arts, where rates are lower and private lessons take place at the University on grand pianos. I also teach in-home lessons for students within 5 miles of the University of Redlands.
Students of mine have gone on to pursue degrees in piano performance and others have competed in (and won) talent shows and auditions. Other students of mine have also gone on to perform for events on their own and in churches and community concerts and recitals. It is my goal to help you reach your goals, with only the sky as the limit!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Everyone is different! Everyone learns different! And everyone wants lessons for different reasons! And that's great!
Every student (and parent, if student is under 18) meets with me for a free interview. But don't sweat it! I guarantee you'll pass this interview! The meeting allows me to get to know you, as a unique person, and learn about your goals. You also will get to know a bit about me prior to the first lesson. After our interview, I will get to work selecting materials and activities that will be both entertaining and effective for you and will help you reach your personal piano goals, with your personal learning style in mind! After all, if you're not having fun, then you aren't really "playing" piano!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold two AA Degrees from Riverside City College in Music and Fine & Applied Arts, as well as a Certificate in Piano Performance. While at RCC, I also worked as a tutor for Class Piano A, B, C and D. I also worked as a private Music Theory tutor for Theory 1, 2 and 3. I am currently a Senior Piano Performance Major at the University of Redlands (Class of 2019), where I also studied Piano Pedagogy in my Junior Year. I was classically trained in piano from childhood and also received a few years of private composition training from a world-class pianist and composer.
