Alaina’s Music Studio At DMSM

Alaina is a lifelong musician and music student, with 25 years of piano experience, 15 years of singing experience, 12 years of recording, 10 years of guitar, and 5 years of Ukulele. Her studio is at Dennis Murphy School of Music in downtown Monterey.

She has been teaching since 2007, and serving the Monterey community since 2009. Alaina also taught K-8 classroom music education from 2012-2019 in several schools based in the Monterey Bay Area. She has also hosted School of Rock music clinics since 2015.

Alaina was a classically trained, competitive pianist who branched into the modern world of rock and music production, and is currently attending classes at Berklee College Of Music to obtain a degree in Music Therapy. She has extensive live performance experience as a solo artist, and with her band, American Trashbird.

Alaina loves her work with children, adult individuals, and families as music is a source of joy and self expression! Her teaching style, though steeped in classical foundation, is lighthearted, supportive, and lends itself to a creative atmosphere where the student is in charge of their learning. Alaina prefers to guide her students to grab hold of and feel confident with their own skills, rather than the authoritative approach which colors the cliched piano teacher. When the student shows ownership over their knowledge, Alaina knows she has succeeded.
