We are a private music studio that offers a wide variety of lesson types with the goal of inspiring musicians of any age or walk of life.
Freed Music represents part of the business and personal partnership that took place when Michael and Emma Freed got married in 2018. Emma Cate Music was founded in La Mesa in April of 2017 while Emma was just getting to know Michael. At this time, Michael was employed at a non-profit music school where he had been teaching since 2014. Starting in June of 2018, Freed Music will open their second teaching location in Ocean Beach. Between the two of them, they can teach guitar, piano, strings, mandolin, voice, worship leading, songwriting, and music theory. Both teachers have had experience in teaching all ages! We are looking forward to the years ahead, teaching and passing on the beautiful art of music to both the East and West side of San Diego as well as online.
Something that we do well is teaching a variety of different styles and genres. While both of us have been trained in classical, we are also trained in improvisation. We play a variety of styles in our professional gigs, including jazz, acoustic/indie, Christian worship, oldies (70's and 80's), as well as bluegrass/country. We love bringing both parts of music, classical and contemporary, to the table to create well rounded students.
