About

I have been teaching piano for 4 decades and I love it! I have teaching experience at all levels, from kindergarten through university, and just retired as the Director of Keyboard Studies at Hamilton High School Academy of Music in Los Angeles where I taught beginners to very advanced students. My students say that I am a kind and patient but thorough teacher, and that my lessons are fun. My goal is to help you experience the joy of music while learning to play well, whether you a beginner, intermediate or advanced pianist. Lessons are individualized to meet the needs and interests of each student. My students are also offered many opportunities to perform including recitals and the MTAC Certificate of Merit. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Piano Teaching and Music Education from the University of Hartford, and a Master's Degree in Piano Performance from Yale University School of Music. I also have extensive experience as a vocal coach, pianist, composer and conductor on Broadway and touring shows. For more detailed information, please see my LinkedIn profile, where I am listed as one of the top 6 piano teachers and performers in this area.

    Frequently asked questions

I like to get to know my students and find out their interests and just what they'd like to accomplish with piano lessons. Then I tailor their lessons to these goals while making sure I provide a good foundation in the fundamentals.

I have a BA in music education and piano teaching  from The University of Hartford and a Masters Degree in piano performance from Yale University School of Music.

$60 for a one hour lesson, $45 for 45 minutes and $35 for a half hour lesson.

I was Director of Keyboard Studies at Hamilton High School Academy of Music (now called Academy of Music and Performing Arts AMPA) for many years. I was also on the faculty of City University of New York, and a number of conservatories.

I have taught students on every level from beginners to concert performers.

It was with great pride that I recently watched my student, DaQuan Robinson perform the last movement of the Grieg Piano Concerto with orchestra at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

This year (2023) My student Cole Thomerson was one of only 4 statewide to be admitted to the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC) Young Composers Guild. He recently performed on piano in Paris and Italy.

Try to find a teacher that you feel comfortable with who is also well trained and patient.

Do you teach beginners? Do you teach advanced students? How many years of experience do you have? Do you belong to any professional organizations? Do your students participate in a curriculum such as the Certificate of Merit program? How much will I need to practice to reach my goals?
