About

I have been a private piano teacher for the past 25 plus years. I give 1 hour lessons at the student's home.

The lineage: I studied with Leonard Shure (over 8 years), who studied with Schnabel, who studied with Leschetizky, who studied with Czerny, who studied piano with Beethoven.

I have studied with many teachers but I learned more from my first lesson with my last teacher, Shure, than the combined total of all my lessons prior to that. Not all teachers are created equal.

The first 2 lessons are free so you can experience my style of teaching. I have a particular specialty in teaching beginners.

MY BIO:

Barry Neikrug comes from an illustrious musical family. His mother was a child prodigy cellist, playing her first concert at age 7. His father, George Neikrug, is considered one of the top 3 cellists of his generation. Marc Neikrug, his brother tours, with Pinchas Zuckerman as his accompanist. His grandfather was the conductor for Russian Tzar Nicholas II. Barry studied under Leonard Shure who was a protégé of Schnabel in Berlin in the 1930s. Schnabel’s lineage traces back to Beethoven. Barry has performed extensively on national tours. After performing his own one-man show, Searching for a Genius Piano Teacher, he went on a national tour with the hit Canadian show, Two Pianos/Four Hands.

Barry Neikrug is an excellent, professional pianist (it is pure joy to hear him play) and an exemplary teacher. He is approachable, knowledgeable and has created a method so that even difficult pieces can be mastered. Barry is flexible with choosing what kind of music to learn and cares about his students. Barry is also humorous (he has performed as a comedian), so lessons with him are fun even while acquiring new skills. No matter what level of expertise, lessons with Barry are enjoyable, challenging and rewarding!

My daughter has been taking piano lessons weekly with Barry for 9 years, since she was 5 years old. Barry is a fantastic teacher! He has the kids playing from the first day. His style is for them to learn the pieces, while simultaneously teaching them the notes and technical details, so that it is fun and engaging for them. He is also really funny, which my daughter likes. With Barry helping her, my daughter has played many concerts, including playing a piece for over 900 people at an event. I even took lessons from Barry over the summer because I wanted to learn a particular piece. I cant say enough good things about Barry as a teacher!
