About

Long before performing in front of a national audience every week on American Idol‘s ninth season as a top-ten finalist and appearing on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Today Show, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Didi Benami had spent years refining her craft as a vocalist and performer with top vocal coaches in Nashville and Los Angeles. After her experience on Idol, she felt compelled to step out of the spotlight for a while to continue to cultivate her vocal skills.

Didi has worked closely with world-renowned vocal coaches Ron Anderson, Roger Love, Liz Lewis, Dorian Holley, and Debra Byrd who have coached many top artists including Ariana Grande, Alicia Keys, Natasha Bedingfield, Toto, Billy Idol, Iggy Pop, Rob Thomas, LeAnn Rimes, Mary J. Blige and Ozzy Osbourne to name a few.

While in the studio recording “Terrified,” a song that gained huge popularity after Didi performed it on Idol, Grammy-winning producer Mikal Blue (Colbie Caillat, OneRepublic, Jason Mraz) was so impressed with how dramatically her voice had improved since he last worked with her four years prior, he asked her to become his main vocal coach for his current young artists in development.

Through her extensive studies, Didi has developed a wider, more powerful range and is excited to help others do the same. One of her main focuses is to teach proper technique to stop singers from damaging their vocal cords.

Didi‘s musical influences include legendary artists like The Beatles, Jimmy Ruffin, Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Mazzy Star, and contemporary singers such as Demi Lovato, Sara Bareilles, Sheryl Crow, and Ingrid Michaelson.

Didi’s outgoing and encouraging personality ensures that each lesson is not only educational but a whole lot of fun!

I get such joy out of seeing the singers I work with understand the concept that singing should be easy and effortless. I love watching them develop proper technique because it opens new doors for them vocally. So it feels effortless. So they can float effortlessly, and they won't hurt themselves. It's important to learn to sing properly so you won't burn out in four or five years and ruin your voice from squeezing or pinching your vocal cords together. That can come from improper technique.

I want you to be able to rely on your voice until you're 90, or however old you live until. That is possible, too.

I’ve been working with Didi for almost a year and I couldn’t be happier with the results. From the first consultation she has been patient and supportive. I now feel a lot more in control and confident while singing and I’ve expanded my range to almost 3 octaves. Her student-centered approach has allowed me to learn by doing, and I feel like I’m now finding my voice.
I’ve gone from thinking I might be tone deaf to playing open mics, writing more complicated melodies into my own songs, and collaborating with other musicians.
I’d highly recommend Didi to anyone that wants to learn!

Didi Benami has helped me with my voice more than any other vocal coach I’ve ever had. As she worked with me, lightbulbs kept going off about things other teachers were trying to teach me in the past that never fully clicked. Suddenly it all made sense. The way Didi explained how the voice works made it easy for me to understand what was going on and how to navigate out of my bad habits. I have been able to sing better than ever and have a clear path to strengthening my voice and being able to sing the way I’ve always wanted.
What’s cool is that I’ve actually watched Didi grow as a singer and have seen first hand how hard she has worked at her craft. Over the years, she’s studied with the best vocal coaches around and it shows in her coaching. Once she began working with Ron Anderson, I could immediately tell the difference in the strength, range and confidence in her voice. It was clear that Ron’s training was making a major impact on Didi. It is expressed in her teaching and how she passes on her knowledge and experience to her students. She really cares and is extremely dedicated to seeing her students succeed.
I recommend Didi Benami to any one I know looking for good vocal coaching.

Did is so knowledgeable, fun, and patient! Its obvious she cares deeply for her students and their personal growth as a vocalist. She pays extra attention to the technique used. Didi ensures that I can sing with as high of quality as possible, and to protect the health of my voice as much as possible. She worked at my pace and encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone. Ive worked with other voice teachers before, and Didi is head and shoulders above them! Shes the best!!! Absolutely adore working with her!

Didi really knows her craft and understands the nuances of how to work with kids to bring out the best in them. She is skilled in the technical aspects of singing, but also brings a warm, upbeat attitude that makes my daughter very comfortable. Didi has helped build my daughters confidence and and her belief in her potential as a singer. She always has a smile and is very kind while also having high expectations of her student. My daughter loves her!!!

We are in love with Didi and her teaching. We are taking her classes for about a year and she is great! She is very professional and has the best personality that makes it easier for my girl to learn new things quicker. My daughter is 6, soon to be 7, and she learned so much in the last year. I would definitely recommend Didi to everyone.

    Frequently asked questions

Every student is different depending on their needs and goals. The first lesson always begins with an online assessment, and it's tailored to each student's specific goals. If the client is in Nashville or Los Angeles (while I am in LA), we can do an in-person consult if desired. *** That said, if you say that you are only willing to do in-person lessons in your submission application and aren't local to Nashville, you would have to be willing to come to Nashville to do your lessons. Otherwise, I am happy to work with you online!

Well, picking one event I am fond of is tough because I have so many. Let me start by saying I love it when my clients have vocal breakthroughs like I did when I took lessons. It brings me so much joy. I love it when they book the auditions they have been working hard on (I signed an NDA for a few of these, so I can't tell you specifically). I am so proud of all of my students and their progress. The main point here is when they feel better, I feel better. :)
Find someone you really vibe with and are comfortable being vulnerable with because you are going to want to be able to be silly and have fun in class.
What are your goals with singing lessons? What are you trying to achieve? Do you have vocal issues causing you to seek a vocal coach? Do you want to be a professional, or is this just for fun? How much are you willing to practice? Learning to sing takes practice.
