About
Darlene Alfuso has been a leader in music education since 1992, holding a degree in violin performance, while inspiring her private students and emphacizing the many styles and techniques of violin playing.
Her philosophy of teaching is based on encouraging her student's individuality and instilling self-motivation to have fun while learning, and excelling in playing the violin. She has held the position of violin coach in the TUSD, since 1999. She has also served as the beginning string coach for the Anaheim after school GATE program, as well as the advanced string coach throughout Anaheim and Buena Park elementary schools.
Darlene has been a professional violinist for the past 35 years, performing with local symphony and chamber orchestras, ballet and theatrical productions and with a expansive variety of name artists at venues throughout Southern California.
I enjoy the connections that I make with each student. I especially appreciate all the challenges that are brought to me, through all the many different levels of talent and musicianship.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin by asking the new student if he/she has had prior musical experience.
If a student is a beginner, I start by teaching him/her how to hold the violin and bow, the names of the violin strings, and we begin by plucking open strings in different rhythms. I will ask the student to purchase a beginning book to use for all future lessons. This beginning book will follow my lesson plan for learning to read music.
If the student has had prior experience, I will listen to them play. We will discuss right and left hand position and make corrections as needed. For following lessons, I will ask the student to purchase additional books that I require, covering scales, techniques and solos pieces.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Violin Performance from CSUF, have taught privately and with school music programs for over 25 years, and have played professionally for 30 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My fee is $70.00/lesson. Four lessons/month = $280.00
An invoice will be emailed to each student before the beginning of each new month. The total payment is due before the first lesson of each month.
Payment to be made via PayPal.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching because of the wonderful experience I had as a child, with my first violin teacher.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages, beginners and experienced.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I'm especially proud of the relationship that I establish with each student. Many of my students have come to me as young children and have stayed with me through high school and college. Some of my past students remain in contact with me as a friend and colleague.
A memorable event was showing up to play a concert and sitting next to me was a former student, who is now a professional violinist.
