About
I am currently accepting new students for Fall 2025, offering in-person lessons at my Ventura studio or online via Zoom on Mondays and Fridays.
I am an enthusiastic and versatile musician and educator dedicated to the arts, holding a degree in piano performance from the University of La Verne. With over a decade of experience, I have developed a diverse teaching portfolio, which includes creating a free interdisciplinary music program for children through the Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, designing workshops for adult amateur musicians, working with students with special needs, and helping guide students with playing related injuries.
I enjoy teaching students of all ages and exposing them to a wide range of music and art. My teaching philosophy emphasizes helping students grow musically while building confidence in both their physical and mental approach to playing.
In my undergraduate work, I studied Piano Performance and Music History, studying piano with Grace Zhao Baugh and conducting research under Dr. Kathleen Lamkin. I explored the music of Frédéric Chopin, focusing on how his works were primarily performed in the intimate setting of Parisian salons. Throughout my career, I have dealt with performance anxiety, which has led me to explore various methods to help students feel more comfortable with their instruments in a performance setting. I enjoy performing in smaller gatherings and frequently organize salon-style concerts with other musicians and artists at my home.
Currently, I work as a luthier at Linda West Cellos, perform in the Vela String Duo, and teach for the Claremont Community School of Music, where I remain an active faculty member and have maintained a studio since 2015. Since 2017 I have also studied the cello, which has broadened my artistic perspective, and I pursue new projects as a creative entrepreneur.
Outside of teaching and performing, I enjoy trying new coffee, concerts, distance running, and studying cello with Jean-Michel Fonteneau at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Some of my students have gone on to study at Azusa Pacific University, The Colburn School, and UCLA
