Hi there! My name is Katie and I truly love teaching swim lessons! I have been teaching swim lessons since July 2014 and private swim lessons since June 2015 for the City and County of Broomfield.
I am a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard and American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. With my experience as a teacher with Broomfield City and County Aquatics, as a swimmer on Broomfield High School's Girls' Swim Team, and as a coach with Broomfield's CARA Swim Team, I am able to help individuals ages two through adult learn how to be more comfortable and safe in the water.
The one thing that brings me the most joy about my work is when I see a student become so happy in the little accomplishments that they do. If it's simply putting their face in the water or swimming five feet by themselves for the first time, it makes me day to see the smile on their face when I tell them that they did it!

When I meet with a new student, I like to talk to the parent/adult before the lessons about the student's goals for the lesson and what skills they would like to be more confident and comfortable with. Before diving in, I take time to understand the boundaries the student has (fears, concerns, perceptions, etc.) before beginning the lesson.
During the first lesson, I analyze thier skill set, cater a plan to help them accomplish their swimming goals, and voice that plan with you!

I work with students of all ages and abilities! I have experience teaching students in group lessons or private lessons varying from the ages of two to eighteen. I have experience also teaching beginning adults to triathlon trainees.
I have also worked with students with learning disabilities and therapeutic recreational needs.
This memory brings a smile to my face! I was teaching a private lesson with a beautiful five-year-old girl. I was helping her practice her frontstoke. While I was explaining something to her, she was staning on my legs. She looked at me and said, "Miss Katie, your legs are so smooth and slimy."
I told her that my legs were so slimy because I was actually half mermaid when I go in the water. Her eyes grew so big and pure surprise crossed her face. She faceplanted in the water so fast to see if it was true.
I will never forget how excited she was!
