About
I am an experienced violinist, with a Bachelor's degree in music from the University of Colorado Boulder, as well as Suzuki training from Charles Krigbaum and Kimberly Meier-Sims. I have been playing violin for 23 years and teaching for 10. I want my students to have fun with music, and master skills so they can play what they want to play.
I love that "aha" moment when a student finally overcomes a roadblock. I enjoy sharing my love of music and feeling the resonance when a student enjoys it too.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I answer questions by email or phone call. Then, I give a free consultation/introductory lesson to see if we are the right fit for each other. If we are, we set up our next lesson!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.A. in Music, as well as Suzuki training through Unit 4. This training can be verified via https://suzukiassociation.org/people/kirsten-pedersen/.
How did you get started teaching?
I let my friend try the violin, and she was so naturally good at the instrument that I couldn't bear to see her go without trying it a few more times. I believe this was in 8th grade.
What types of students have you worked with?
Quite a variety! I gave a beginner lesson to a 2-year-old once, and I have also held regular lessons with a 75-year-old. I have taught beginners, intermediate, and advanced players.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Try a lesson before you commit. I offer an introductory lesson. In cases where a teacher doesn't offer that service, I have paid for a single lesson before committing to lifelong study with that person. You want to make sure things feel right and that this teacher creates an environment you can truly learn in.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What type of teaching philosophy are you looking for? Do you want someone who will be strict with you or your child? Do you want someone who will keep lessons fun? What would you like to focus on and how fast would you like to progress?
