Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Get where they are at, they tell me where they begin - my training can be more valuable if some things can be covered without in depth background.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Oh, the typical former NRA instructor, former LE. Nothing that really impressed - learning about shooting is not about me, it's about you.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Nope. My time is valuable - but I'd rather teach someone willing to learn than someone expecting some particular result. We can discuss it briefly when you tell me what you need
How did you get started teaching?
Age 18. Red cross safety instructor in multiple disciplines. It's always been my talent - I was lucky to discover this early in life.
What types of students have you worked with?
Types? Like species? I dislike pigeonholes, you bring your brain and body - I'll work with you. This is almost an offensive question for me to answer.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I'm a dad. Here's how the pattern goes with one of my children.
"hey Dad - I've decided it would be a good idea if I learn more about how to plan for my future financial endeavors (paraphrasing slightly).
I smiled and said, "great"
What I didn't do was say, "well you finally listened to me...". It's not about me, however someone arrives at a positive point in life is all that matters.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be open. You almost literally cannot offend me, even if you really try. I will never ask something of you that will injure or harm you, and that I haven't done myself - AS A REASONABLE adult. You want extreme? Look elsewhere.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Hearing a student work at articulating a question gives too much good insight to ask that a question be thought out in advance. I want to communicate effectively with you, I can do that better if I hear you work out the question.
