What is your typical process for working with a new student?
To begin training all students must attend a hands on introductory lesson. This lesson last 30-45 minutes and is taught in a one-on-one setting with an instructor. In this lesson you will learn the core concepts of the art and have a chance to ask any questions about training.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
We study Ving Tsun in the Ip Man lineage. The art was passed down to Moy Yat, one of Ip Man's most diligent students. Today we study under Moy Yat's direct student, Grandmaster Moy Tung.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Our standard tuition is $135/month if use a debit or credit card on our automatic payment system. We have classes 4x/week, each class is 2 hours long. Attendance works like a gym, you train as much as you can for one set price. We encourage students to make it to at least 2 classes/week.
How did you get started teaching?
I began taining in 1999 in Iowa City, Ia. After many years of training I became an instructor in Detroit, MI and the Detroit Kung Fu Academy.
What types of students have you worked with?
Ving Tsun was designed by a woman for a woman. It is an art in which a smaller individual can learn to fight a larger more skilled opponent. This is applicable to everyone. Ving Tsun builds the tools you need for self-defense.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Attending the annual seminar with Grandmaster Moy Tung in Detroit, Mi. This was a two week event with over 60 hours of training. It was attended by over 100 students from across the nation.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
