Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If the student has never played their instrument before, I check that their instrument is the correct size. Then I put tapes on their instrument and show them how to put their shoulder rest on. Then we are ready to start learning to play the instrument. If they have played before, I have them play a little bit for me, so I can assess where exactly we should start in the books. I teach mostly classical music with other styles as just supplemental music.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have played the violin for most of my life. I have a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master of Education from Baker University. I have been teaching for fifteen years.
