About
ALL LESSONS ARE ONLINE DUE TO COVID UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Music lessons are fun and I love what I do! Find Music by Roberta on Facebook and Linked In for reviews. I am comfortable and well versed in teaching online, so I can be your teacher wherever you are. If you have always wanted to sing or play, now is the time. Everyone has a voice and can learn to improve it. Anyone can learn to play the piano at any age. I welcome students at all levels from age 6-adult, including beginners of all ages. I have 20 years teaching experience, classical and theater training, and a background in performing (singing/acting/choral conducting). I employ a method of positive feedback and base teaching on a foundation of good technique. Singing starts with learning technique, control, and habits to promote a lifetime of good vocal health. I work with all styles of music. Piano includes music reading, theory including scales and chords, and technique as well. Singers receive ad hoc staging and acting coaching I also work as a church music director singing, playing organ and piano, and directing the choir. I enjoy developing students' abilities to their full potential. That is how I define success for me and them, whether the student has career goals or just wants to sing or play piano for fun. I am excited to work with beginners learning to read music and even those who need help matching pitch. I train students to audition for Regional and All State Choruses and acceptance into musuc school. I teach all styles of music including musical theater, classical, opera, gospel and pop. I also am effective working with advanced musicians who want to further refine their skills along with band singers, voice over artists, recording artists who want coaching on material, and more. I choose to teach because I can pass in what I love to do best to others. Music makes the world a more enjoyable place and music tells the stories of our lives.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We get to know each other a bit. We discuss goals, interests and if the student is not a beginner, we assess levels. Range is tested for vocal students.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have various degrees and performance certificates in music, 30 years experience performing (classical singing and theater), 30 years experience as a church organist, pianist and choral conductor, and 20+ years experience teaching voice and piano. I also spent a few early years of my career in the classroom as a certified teacher in the State of CT.
How did you get started teaching?
After a career traveling to sing, I settled down in one place and decided it was time to share the joy and pass on the ability to do what I do to others. I am a teacher by education and I enjoy the learning process.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with students at all levels from age 6-adult and welcome beginners at any age. I have worked with students with career goals who I have successfully help audition into Regional and All State Choruses, university programs and professional productions in theater and opera. I also enjoy working with students whose goal is to sing or play for fun. I coach professionals who want to hone their skills along with singers who want to polish material for recording. Additionally, I have worked on vocal training with broadcasters and voice over actors.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for the right match in personality, temperment and teaching/learning style.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Ask questions about teaching style and what will be the focus of the lessons. Open ended questions are best and you (hopefully) want to hear answers about focus on technique, theory and music reading.
