I am Rita Bourne , founder of Bourne Swim Academy since 2010. I am American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor , CPR and Lifeguard certified. Bourne Swim Academy’s mission is to increase the knowledge and awareness of water safety and drowning prevention. The goal is to ensure that children learn how to stay safe in and around water becoming skilled and confident swimmers.
The most important thing I enjoy about my work is that everyday I save lives. I encourage all my students to gain their confidence and to believe in themselves.

Rita is an excellent teacher and a mentor. I remember my first day full of anxiety and fear. She guided me through my fear and changed it to my strength. Now I just love water and have learned so many techniques in less than 6 lessons and being 27 was really hard for me to get that flexibility and strength which I have now. I can't believe how much I enjoy swimming now all thanks to Rita. I would miss you.
Rita was an excellent teacher and a friend. She changed my view of fear from water to something that I enjoy now and gained strength as well. I really love her teaching style and the techniques I learned makes me feel like a professional now. All I can say is practise and practise and practise.
As a Swim instructor making an introduction to the new student is most important, it creates trust and calms the child so that their introduction to their swim lesson be a success.
American Red Cross trained and certified as a Water Safety Instructor, CPR. As a WSI, I teach all levels of swimming from Parent & Child, School Age children, Adults and Private instructions, including swim skills techniques.
I was a competitive swimmer in college and after years of teaching I was motivated to share my abilities with others and underserved communities.
I have worked with Parents & Tots, School Age children, Adults, Private instruction, and Coaching after school Swim Team.
The Olympic Swimming trials always captures my attention.
I would tell my students ,"Just Have Fun" and enjoy the water and experience. Once they become comfortable the fear will change to confidence.
Swimming is a commitment , so students have to be dedicated to the learning from start to finish and they would be successful.
