Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Our first session is a introduction to the instrument or craft as well as a creative start to understanding what techniques are involved. For instrument lessons we begin learning how to read and create music using both our hands as well as proper instrument care and other basic information. Homework is given to help jumpstart our lesson pace and over time new skills, techniques, and scales are introduced.
For arts and crafts students, we start by understanding some basics and learning how to create functional objects, items, and basic stitches. Once we learn those we move forward to more difficult techniques so you will be able to eventually know how to create your own patterns and artsy items.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree in Music Education and am beginning my Orff certification. I have taught music in a school setting for 5 years and am an instrumentalist. I love teaching students of all ages learn how to play instruments and interpret what the music really means and should sound like.
I also have been teaching art clubs and have been crocheting, knitting, drawing, and painting for over 5 years. I love creating fun and unique craft items and would love to share just how simple it really is!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
For a half hour lesson I charge 20 dollars and for a full hour I charge 40. If I come to you, depending how far it may increase to 25 for a half hour and 45 for a full hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching privately since I began teaching school 5 years ago. I love watching students grow and gain a deeper understanding of ehat they are learning. It is amazing when I see my students play things they never thought was possible or create things they thought they would have bought in a store!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a wide range of students from 5 to 20 and have no problem working with students of any age!
