Quite simply...Jim's objective is for you to have fun playing golf and the way to have fun is to hit good shots. I had been playing on & off for over 20 years. I would always give up a shot from the fairway or a shot around the green...sometimes both. In my first lesson...he watched me hit a half dozen balls and said...STOP STOP STOP. This is where Jim is worth every cent. He adjusted my grip, posture and swing mechanics...low & behold, was hitting the pitching wedge 125 yards...straight down the middle without thinking about it or trying to generate any club head speed. I was so encouraged after just one lesson. I signed up for 10 lessons and each lesson focuses on a different facet of the game of golf...Jim is quite observant, explains the things you are doing incorrectly and demonstrates proper technique. My challenge is to unlearn many years of flawed muscle memory. I am looking forward to that challenge because through Jim's tutelage, drills & exercises I know my goal of playing bogie golf is not far off for me.

*** DEFINTELY THE "WRIGHT" COACH *** I have been taking lessons off and on with Jim for several months and cannot believe the progress I have been making in such a short period of time. While Jim provides overall guidelines on techniques, what makes him stand out from other instructors is that he teaches you golf that works best for both your body AND mind. In other words, he finds the best way to play that fits your own style. He customizes the lessons for you to become successful. Most other instructors have a "cookie cutter" method which anyone can learn from YouTube. Jim, on the other hand, listens and observes what works best for you and makes you really enjoy the game. Golf is not only a physical, but also a mental game and can very, very frustrating. Jim helped me improve on both parts of golf by looking at it differently. If you're like me and was about to throw in the towel on golf, try at least 3-5 lessons with Jim. He'll convince you that not only are you capable of playing, but that you're a great player!

Jim takes a highly individual approach with little pressure. He is understanding of physical limitations and knowledgeable about ways to cope with them. He has an excellent , quantitative understanding of the physics of the swing and ball-flight. He also has an excellent understanding of the physiological components of the swing and can quickly zero in on specific issues. Beyond all of that, he focuses on keeping the lessons and the game fun. The country club is also very nice, well maintained, and staffed by friendly, capable people. The interactions we have had with members have also been very positive.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I ask how long they have been playing golf. Then I ask if they have any lessons before. I make the student feel comfortable with me. I ask what they believe is the biggest issue in their golf game. I don't try to change an entire swing, just make little tweaks and explain how the golf swing works.

I explain that I am not a method teacher. Everyone is different.

I use slow-motion video and send an email the following day to the student on what we worked on. I provide the student with appropriate drills to do at home to get the feel of a great swing.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have studied and watched some of the best instructors in the country. I am a Certified PGA Class "A" Member and Certified through the PGA in Teaching and Coaching. I am certified through the PGA in Coaching through the American Developmental Model in learning. I am certified as a Callaway, Ping, TaylorMade, and Titleist club fitter.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

One lessons is $90. I have series of lessons, 2 lessons for $160, 3 lessons for $220, 7 lessons for $370. The more lessons that are purchased the less the cost per lesson is.

How did you get started teaching?

I started in the Air Force. I had the teaching contract at every Air Force base I was stationed at. I am retired from the Air Force and that is a lot of duty stations. I have been with the PGA for over 35 years.

What types of students have you worked with?

Ladies, juniors, beginners, mid, low handicap players. Also professional golfers.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

The Drive, Chip and Putt for the juniors.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Look for one that has a passion for getting the student better. If the student hits the ball better, chips better, putts better, they will have more FUN!!! I don't sell lessons, I sell FUN.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Is the Instructor a Method Teacher. How long have they been teaching.
