Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Basically would want to teach classical music. (One recording of a potion of Rachmaninov Piano Concerto #2 with the Manila Symphony Orchestra can be viewed at YouTube by simply entering “Augusto Cuesta”
Would recommend beginners to start with Hanson, Czerny, and other basics.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Studied with famed pianists Regalado Jose and Olga Dewitt.
Holds a Bachelors Degree.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$25 per hour plus cost of travel to student’s location. No cost of travel if student goes to my studio.
How did you get started teaching?
After finishing degree and while concertizing, taught on the side few students.
What types of students have you worked with?
Preferably preteen students. It is apparent to see in them a commitment and promise which is evident (or not) at this stage.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would normally spend, initially, a try out period to establish a rapport with the student. The object is to find out if he or she can appreciate and develop classical music. This would take about a month or after 4 lessons after which I would make recommendations to parents to go on or not, whichever is in the interest of the student.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
To perform well as a musician demands. To determine one’s commitment needs talent and patience. The student will ultimately realize with the encouragement of his teacher just at what level will he or she pursue.
