Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
At the first class I would speak to the child/parent about goals for their lessons, review any medical information including learning styles and preferences. I then would take a few minutes to screen for previous experiences and skills. If it your very first time in the pool we will take our time and orient ourselves to the aquatic environment including safety and what to expect, I may even assign water homework, so be prepared to learn how to swim.

When I turned 17 I became a lifeguard and ever since then I have been swimming and teaching people of all ages.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with all ages including infants ( 6 month and up), children and adults. I have vast amount of experience with teaching swimming, stroke correction and people with differing abilities. I believe water safety and swimming should be acessible to all as it is a life skill!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I just recently relocated to Florida from Canada as this is where I spent my vacations since I was a very young girl. I love the great sunshine and warm weather and love surfing in the ocean. I can't wait to meet all the new swimmers and share my love of swimming with them.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Whether you are looking for lessons for yourself or your child it is important to ensure the person you hire is qualified, has experience and conducts safe and fun lessons. As aquatic professional for many years you needt o ensure you can trust the person and have a good connection in order to make lessons run smooth.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is your previous swimming experience?
Have you had any negative experiences around water that would affect your learning experience?
Do you have any specific needs that will affect your learning? ( physical or mental needs)
Do you have any medical needs that the teacher should know about, and what they need to do in emergency ( medical conditions, medication, allergies)?
If so have I checked with the doctor to ensure they recommend swimming lessons at this time and their recommendations?( ear plugs, water concerns, recovering from previous illness or injury)
Do I have bathing suit, towel, special toy or goggles that I should bring to my first class?
Am I ok with someone holding me in the water for the first time or do I need to have my parent in water with on my first class?
Is there any specific goals, skills or strokes that I want to learn? ( want to become lifeguard, triathalete training)?
Are you ready to learn a new life skill that you can use forever?
