Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Discovery. Every student has areas of natural ability. The initial lessons focus on the student's strengths and these we maximise to their full potential. A method of practice is created for each individual student so that he/she can make the greatest progress in the least amount of time possible.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
25 years of teaching and performing in Europe and the United States. I hold a Doctorate from Keele University in the United Kingdom in the field of Music and Social Science. I feel enlightened by a broader global perspective.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My minimum teaching time is one full hour which I believe is needed. My rate is $50 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I was asked to teach from members of audiences at various performances. From there I was invited to teach in schools and privately.
What types of students have you worked with?
All age groups but my specialty is complete beginners and adult learners.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A student has a right to expect his teacher to listen to his students' requests regarding style, goal, and learning methods. A teacher should always be able to evolve a planned course of study tailored to the individual student goals and needs.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should try to articulate preferences. How much time they can devote to practice and what their goals might be.
