Liesel Soley

I wish the website would allow me to give more than five stars!

Liesel Soley is incredibly talented as both a musician and a teacher, for violin and viola. I am honored to write this review. Liesel spreads the joy of music to all of her students.

She is unbeatable in her command of the technique of playing violin and viola, and students of Liesel will greatly benefit from her magnificent instruction of that technique. When I first came to Liesel, I was a struggling musician at a high school music magnet program, and was basically on probation. But with Liesels amazing teaching and her faith and patience in me, I was able to blossom into a very good violist, and actually became first chair viola in the school orchestra. Liesel inspires all of her students to strive for excellence in whatever their endeavors are. Although I am not a professional musician (I went into the legal profession), the encouragement and extraordinary teachings from Liesel helped me in all of my academic pursuits.

As an educator myself, I always look for the unmistakable trait in great teachers: their passion for education. When I first met Ms. Soley, I knew I not only had found my six-year-old son, Benjamin, a teacher for music, but a teacher for life. A true educator will teach you something beyond skills and techniques. She will teach you patience, dedication, love, compassion, and most importantly, the courage to devote yourself. It is an honor to have Ms. Soley in my family’s life.

I started taking lessons with Liesel when I was 5 years old and continued until I graduated high school. Liesels guidance and support changed my life, as I found a love for music, an appreciation for hard work, and many tools for success both in and outside of performing. I have learned both violin and viola from Liesel and have experienced many different types of ensembles thanks to her. This includes playing in Carnegie Hall twice, several chamber groups, and pit orchestras for musicals. Liesel encouraged me to come out of my shell, and I have carried that confidence with me my whole life. There are not enough words to describe the impact Liesel has had on my life and anyone would be lucky to call her their teacher.

Liesel is an amazing violinist with many great attributes. She taught me everything I need to know about the violin. How to hold it, the different strings and the bow position. She is very good at solving problems and finding the most effective way to help you understand. She always made sure I understood and liked what I was playing as well. She inspires others to find that deep passion and love that she has for music. It was a wonderful experience working with Liesel!!

Our daughter has been taking lessons with Liesel Soley for many years. She is engaging, encouraging, creative, and knows how to read her students. We love having Liesel as violin teacher.
