Hello! I'm Anna, a songwriter from Nashville TN! I have 5+ years of experience training young vocalists, pianists, and songwriters! I believe that the creation of music comes from a deep and uniquely beautiful place in each person and I strive to bring your authentic shine forward!
As a classically and commercially trained vocalist and pianist, I am passionate about giving my students a well rounded foundation on their instrument. This includes knowledge of scales, chord functions, note reading, etc!
BUT that's just the start. Over the past few years, I have currated a songwriting course that focuses on lyric and melody writing for young creatives looking to take their ideas to the next level! I mentor you through the process of learning commercial song form, recording demos, and even starting to catalog your portfolio! Songwriting can be eluvise, and my goal is to give you a true crash course!
Whether you've never written a song or your looking to achieve a better understanding of your creativity, or the industry, I got you! Together we can curb any stage fright and build confidence through your understanding of music theory, musicianship, and creative flow!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
It's most important to me that YOU feel like you're learning and excelling in the areas you are passionate. So, we'll chat and personalize a plan for you depending on your musical goals.
For example, if you tell me you want to learn how to accompany your own singing on the piano, we will focus on learning chords and their functions! If you want to try songwriting for the first time and you really connect with Olivia Rodrigo, we'll study her work together, and dive into a lyric and melodic style similar to hers! If you're stuggling with constant vocal fatigue, we'll incorporate practices that allow you to build happy and healthy vocal cord strength!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated with a Bachelors in Commercial Music Production from the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and then spent the next 5 years in Nashville writing in a multitude of musical genres, (pop, RnB, singer-songwriter, country, etc)

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching local theater students vocal and piano lessons while I was still in college, and when I graduated, I began teaching piano, vocal, and songwriting at The School of Rock Nashville!

I have worked with beginner to intermediate piano students, young songwriters looking to understand music theory, the industry, or improve their craft as a creative, theater & choir vocalists, pop & RnB vocalists, rock & country vocalists!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You never know how much you'll love creating or performing until you try it!! You also never know how much you have to say or let go of until it comes spilling out in a song!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Consider if you love creating or performing more! Ask yourself, "do I lose track of time when I'm painting/writing/creating something with my mind, body, soul OR do I love practicing something until it's perfect!?"
