Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
All training is customizable based on the client's needs. In addition to the standard training packages offered, I sit down with students and dress their more immediate needs. All classes start with basic stretches that advance as the student level of training progresses. All strikes, blocks, and weapon defense are put into context with role play to accelerate the client’s proficiency and understanding of violence in the real world.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
See bio.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Self-defense packages start at $25/Hr. per client. Clients who sign up for more classes receive a discount. Couples and group training packages are also offered. Service area may dictate price adjustment for mileage compensation.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching while serving in the military.
What types of students have you worked with?
Military, law enforcement, and civilians.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I took a team to the Virgin Island in 2018 for a 2-day workshops. The workshops were for first responders - lethality indicators of domestic violence, and community members - strangulation awareness and self defense.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
There are good technicians that teach excellent form. But very few that can put what they teach into real context. All depends on what you want and how soon you need it.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Is there a contract, and if so, what will it cost for your (client) to break the contract if life changes your circumstances.
