About

I have been teaching swimming lessons for about five years. I started as a volunteer at the YMCA teaching kids from the inner city how to swim. We worked with children from first grade to eighth grade.

I now teach children from about four years old to 80 years old. I am CPR certified.

I do not have much experience with babies.

Knowing that swimming is the most important skill to have in a state surrounded by water -- and pools!

I've had a great time teaching people at every age imaginable learn to swim. Sometimes it's just helping people with their fear of water.

I travel to home pools and community pools in Orlando.

Frequently asked questions

Seeing what skil level they are at first, then going from there!

With children we start with bubbles and dunking under water to get a feel for how comfortable they are.

It's the same with adults. I assess where they are first, then decide how to proceed.

I've been teaching swimming for five years (started at YMCA) and now go to people's homes for private lessons.

I'm also a substitute teacher at St. James grammar school, so I believe I relate well to children.

I do a flat $50 an hour for up to two children, one adult.

I live downtown, so if I have to travel more than 20 minutes each way, it's a $10 flat surcharge.

I've been swimming all my life but started teaching when the YMCA was looking for volunteers to teach kids in Orlando how to swim. We taught twice a week kids from second to eighth grade. It was gratifying seeing how fast they could learn in this eight week program

I typically work with children from age four on up. I don't teach babies.

I am now working with a woman in her 70s who is just starting to learn how to swim, so I like working with most age groups.

I taught two college-age kids (one from Poland) who had never been in a pool!

I was shocked that they didn't know how to swim but in the end, they both were swimming, getting to the side of the pool on their own, touching the bottom of the pool and doing a very nice freestyle!

The first lesson will determine if you and the teacher are a match. I believe there is a rapport -- or chemistry--between teacher and student and the student has to feel comfortable with the teacher.

Be truthful in their abilitities, their fears (even if it's just fear of the water).
