About

Each student is given an individualized curriculum based on their abilities, skills, and musical goals. High standards are expected for the student and the instructor. With the understanding that not every student learns and understands the same way, different modes of teaching are employed and a wide variety of music is explored. As your teacher it is my goal to instruct, motivate, and inspire you to the best of my abilities, but ultimately, you have to be the one who wants to excel, practice, and do the work!

I have been teaching piano for 20 years, from young beginners to collegiate level students, and adults. I hold a Bachelor and Master of Music in Piano Performance and I am also a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music through Music Teachers National Association. As an instructor, I have taught music courses and applied piano at Arkansas State University, Mississippi County Community College, Pensacola State College and maintained private studios at these locations. I have held my current piano studio in home since 2008. Professional development is a vital part of my continuing education by attending conferences, workshops, performing and being an active member of the Pensacola Music Teacher's Association. One aspect I really enjoy about teaching piano is the progress and accomplishment a student reaches while learning a piece of music.

Frequently asked questions

I like to find out some information about a student by asking questions about themselves, what music they like, background, and other interests. I want the student to feel comfortable! We began exploring the piano itself, start with some easy improvisation, and get the music conversation going!

I have a Bachelor and Masters in Piano Performance. I taught at the collegiate level for 6 years.  I have maintained a private studio for 20 years for children and adults. Professional development is very important to my training as I keep my skills up as a pianist and a teacher. I am also an excellent sight reader and accompanist and enjoy working with ensembles.

My lessons are based off a certain number of lessons and divided into 10 equal payments. Students are not just paying for the time with the teacher. I also have a non refundable book and supply fee of $70 that I ask for upfront every fall to cover all materials needed.

I started teaching group piano as a graduate assistant at Arkansas State University! I also had a few private students. This turned into a position at the university after I graduated. I also taught music fundamentals, music appreciation, in addition to the group piano lessons for music and non-music majors.

I have worked with children as young as age 4 and adults in their 70's. Beginners to Early Advanced. I've also worked with students with special needs.

I am member of my local music teachers association and we put on a Baroque Festiva every year. I am chairman for the Festival and decided we needed to make this event more than just another recital. So we brought in a harpsichord, had a wig making station, selfie booths, teachers in costumes from the 18th century, and students in costume as well! My goal was to make this time period come alive for all of our collective students!

Make sure you tell the teacher what your goals are and what you would like to accomplish. Be realistic in your expectations.

A student should really understand the time commitment needed to make progress in piano. It will take determination, persistence, and discipline to keep up a practice routine but it is so worth it. The further you progress in your piano studies, the more time you will have to spend practicing.
