My name is Laura Downs. My Studio is Up'n Down Tempos. Located at 2401 E. Graves Ave., Suite 17, Orange City, Fl 32763.In business for almost 30 years. Teach children from age 3 up to 90. Two Recitals a year. Strong on scales, chords and inprovisation. Open Monday thru Saturday by APPOINTMENT only. Website, www.lauradownspiano.com. On website there is a coupon for the first lesson free. After that, it is $70.00 for 4 lessons. Lessons are 1/2 hour. It is at a Studio, so there is a waiting area for parents. Only take cash or check. No credit cards. Consider going to a home but it depends on the circumstance. Would rather teach at the Studio, as it is a better learning area. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Determine if they have had prior lessons and test to see what knowledge they have. As far as what I will do, it depends on the age of the student. I Teach a method called Mayron Cole, so the book is laid out for each lesson. Strong on music theroy
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Cerified to teach the Mayron Cole Method. Attended Orlando School of Music. Have taught almost 30 years. At one point, I had 70 students per week. At the end of last May, I had 60. With the 3 - 5 year olds, I have music games we play. I do not keep them at the piano the whole 30 minutes. They all love it.
