About
I am a highly skilled, experienced voice teacher with in-depth technical knowledge of how the voice works. I am an excellent communicator and naturally creative. I tune in to each student's vocal issues and figure out how to help them develop the potential of their voice.
I am aware that many voice teachers do not understand mechanics of using the voice correctly, which makes a huge difference in how the singer sounds, their range and vocal flexibility. I am educated in teaching Italian “bel canto” (the art of easy, beautiful singing), and I integrate elements of speech therapy into effective singing techniques. Vocal placement combined with correct breath support gives the voice more resonance, flexibility and stamina. These skills can be used with the musical styles of the student’s choice.
I also teach skills in expressing the song, such as phrasing artistry, interpretation of musical styles, language articulation, pitch accuracy and performance techniques. My lessons are $50 for 60 minutes, which is what is required for a student to progress. However, if the student is interested, I teach music reading skills, which requires more time added to the lesson.
Regarding payment, I accept cash or checks.
I received my BA in Music Education with a focus in vocal music from the University of South Florida. I studied voice there with Jerald Reynolds and Everett Anderson. After college, I lived in Mendocino, CA where I taught private voice lessons, and at the College of the Redwoods I taught class voice and college/community choir, which performed often throughout the community. In addition, I performed and was a voice coach for the Gloriana Opera Company, and was also a musical theater voice coach for Mendocino Performing Arts Company. I performed in many concerts for the community and collectively put together a concert as a quartet singing the Brahms Liebeslieder Waltzes as well as operatic solos and duets. We toured throughout the coast of Northern California.
In Tampa Florida and Lynwood Washington I taught public school music, choir and often taught art programs in school, as well as for the Arts Council of Tampa. My teaching music in public and private school spanned nearly 40 years, and I also taught private voice lessons and performed.
I sang with the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay under the direction of Mr. Robert Summer.
I enjoy putting my students at ease and communicating with them effectively, then watching them progress, develop their skills and then feel more confident in singing. I enjoy getting to know my students as I work with them. I have a sense of humor and love the process of teaching. Each person is different, so through experience I have learned to find those specific ways to put them at ease while helping them grow as singers. The goal is for the singer to develop the freedom and skill to enjoy beautiful self-expression through singing.
