Aylene V. says, "I love this Academy! The Wellington Elite Music Academy of the Arts is outstanding! My positive experience with them started from the very first lesson. The staff is great and the academy offers an inviting setting and calm atmosphere. My instructor, Ms. J. Crawford is simply the best teacher I've ever had! Her lessons, knowledge, experience, and guidance, have truly taken my piano playing and voice to the next level! The highest level! I have successfully completed my piano and voice courses with Ms. Joyce Crawford, and thank her for all her wonderful teaching! I am so happy with them, that I have signed up both kids with them! They are learning and progressing beautifully, and most importantly, love their lessons! Great location, nice staff, and amazing instructors! If you are really looking to learn voice and/or piano, and want top notch instruction for children or adults, this is definitely the place to go. I studied abroad for two years, after wondering why Actors from the UK were taking all the roles in the US! Kidding, I swear. I graduated with my Master of Fine Arts in Acting (The British Tradition) from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, UK. I also graduated from the University of South Florida with my Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Performance. I am certified in unarmed combat (US/UK). I've learned through various instructors under the techniques of (Movement) Laban; (Voice) Linklater, Estill; (Acting) Meisner, Stanislavki, Chehkov, and Practical Aesthetics. Each of the acting techniques differ in what is taught, but they all reach for the ...

I will be appearing on stage October 20 for the SECOND time at the Delray Playhouse on beautiful Lake Ida in Delray Beach. I appeared in 2023 playing the part of Lady Montague and this year I will be Pandora in the play Pandora 2.0. I would enjoy helping any student who gets cast in a play , either in a Playhouse or in their school play! ( I played Natalie Woods, part in rebels without a cause /my senior year in high school) . To be able to read ones lines with expression and true authenticity- where the words come from deep inside you -is something that I think I would be able to assist any actor in bringing forth. I would be doing this si

Your Acting Classes questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do acting classes cost?

Acting classes cost $25 to $65 per hour on average for group classes or $50 to $150+ per hour to hire a private acting coach. Prices vary depending on where you live and the instructor's experience and reputation. Acting studios that offer ongoing weekly classes typically charge $150 to $350 per month.

Acting courses and workshops can cost as little as $200 to as much as $2,800+, depending on the content, number of sessions, and the instructor's demand. Some acting workshops are short, 1- or 2-day intensive classes focusing on one aspect of the industry, while other programs last 4 to 8 weeks and cover several topics, methods, and techniques.

Most studios offer a free trial class so you can get a feel for the teaching style and decide if it's right for you.

Are online acting classes worth it?

Online acting classes are worth it if you want to pursue acting and are unable to attend acting classes in person. With online video calling platforms like Zoom and Skype, you can now study acting with the best in the industry from the comfort of your own home! Many reputable acting coaches—including those right here on Lessons—now offer online acting classes and teach the same methods and techniques that they teach in the studio.

Do you need acting classes to become an actor?

You technically don't need acting classes to become an actor. However, acting classes can help you gain confidence, learn new methods and techniques, analyze scenes and scripts, and build new industry connections and relationships. Acting classes can also teach you about the business side of acting, which is as important as acting itself.

How long do acting classes take?

Acting class length varies depending on the studio and the type of class. Some studios have 2-hour classes, while others have classes lasting 3 to 5 hours. Depending on the location, acting classes may be offered in several formats, such as ongoing weekly classes, weekend intensive workshops, and training programs that can run anywhere from 2 to 8+ weeks.

What skills do you need to be an actor?

While the necessary skillset varies depending on the type of acting you pursue (think Broadway theater vs. TV commercials vs. film), all actors need a broad range of skills to portray the expressions and emotions of a character so effectively that they temporarily transport the audience to a world where the actor is indeed that character. This often involves:

  • Memorizing lines and stage cues
  • Analyzing scripts and scenes
  • Developing a character's emotions and physical expressions
  • Working with other actors, directors, and production crews
  • Adapting to unexpected changes and situations
  • Speaking clearly and adjusting one's voice to align with the character
  • Learning and developing different acting methods and techniques
  • Being comfortable in front of an audience or camera

Miss Lilia is the best acting coach I´ve ever had. I reached to her a month before having to submit my application for College Theatre Programs. Despite the short amount of time, we managed to get it all done! She´s a very comprehensive and nice person. She makes the class fun and not so structural, which I think is key for any acting classes.

Hi! I'm Jessica Inna, 25 years old. I loved going to the Wellington Academy of the Arts for my piano and voice/singing lessons! That's right! I have had all 3, because they offer lesson combos! There, the staff is always kind and do their very best to assist you. I have gone there for in-studio lessons, and have noticed their instruments, and benches, are sanitized between students. The air, is sanitized/sprayed at different times of the day too! Just thought I would mention it, because I don't know of any other place that does that. I think that's great! In addition, one more thing I have always liked there, is that lessons are one-on- one (private), and when a student reserves a time for lessons, he/she get the studio for himself/herself. My piano/voice/singing instructor, Dr. Joyce Crawford, is AMAZING! I started taking lessons at 18, and had various instructors in the past; Because I simply didn't see much improvement/progress, even though I practiced the material they gave me daily, I kept moving on to a new instructor. I had decided to take a year break. I did. Then, about 3 years ago, when I turned 22, I decided to quickly do some research, and look for the very best instructor I could find. After a good amount research, I signed up for piano and voice/singing lessons with Ms. Joyce Crawford. I must say, it's been the best learning experience ever! She is enthusiastic, very knowledgeable, and knows exactly when to push and when to ease up. In addition, her lessons target all aspects of piano playing and singing, including technique and musicality. In singing/voice, she will give you her professional advice/knowledge, and teach you exactly, how to get the very best/most of your voice. She has always made me think, work, get excited about learning, and her lessons are a blast! She's kind, but firm. She is patient, but has expectations. Just what I needed to progress as productively & beautifully as I have. Today, I play the piano and sing so beautifully, that I started to do so professionally. I plan to continue to go back to her for lessons, for some musical/technique support/perfecting, during the beginning of my professional career in music. She's helped me get where I am today, and I'm truly thankful! As a recommendation, if anyone is looking to truly learn and succeed, I could not think of a better professional/instructor than her. I had various instructors over the years, Then, I found Joyce. Dr. Joyce Crawford is, by far, the best in the business! She comes highly recommended!
