About
I offer a developmentally sound method for teaching water safety and fundamental swimming skills. Infants from 6 mos to toddlers of 4 years, will learn to submerge, back float, and roll over to breathe. This swim-float-swim method of swimming prepares them in case of an accidental fall in, but also allows them to swim further with confidence. Older children (ages 5 and older) will also learn swim stroke techniques to equip them to join any area swim team. I also offer lessons to adults who are both comfortable with the water and afraid. Getting over a fear as an adult is not easy. I try to assist adults in this endeavor as gently as possible.
My goal is to help your child relax and enjoy the water safely as well as achieve any swim goals they may have.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Via text or phone call (your choice), we will discuss you and your child's comfort level in the water as well as any skills or lessons your child may have already taken. We will also discuss the availability of both of our schedules to find a set day(s)/time that will be convenient for you. Once we are agreed on day/time for the first lesson, I will ask that you text me your address or the address of the pool we will meet at.
At the completion of our first lesson, we will discuss how many days a week recommended, and how you would like to pay (i.e. which payment method and for individual lesson or purchase a "package").
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a swim instructor and coach for over 25 years. I have trained and coached thousands of children in that time. I am an American Red Cross Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor, as well as a USA Swimming Coach and official. I also have various certifications in infant swimming methods to assist me in preparing your child for an accidental fall in, as well as certifications for adult relaxation in the water to assist a "nervous in the water" adult.
I am also a mother and a grandmother, which gives me a special insight on working with children. I believe in water safety for all children. Early childhood swimming is a very special event in a child's life. It should be safe, enjoyable, and build your child's water confidence.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I price my lessons at a very reasonable $30 for 30 minutes. I accept Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, or cash.
After the first lesson, you may chose to pay only for the next lesson at a time, or purchase a "package" of lessons. Packages afford you a discounted rate, plus a set time in my schedule "locked-in". You will receive a 5% discount for a package of 4 lessons, 10% discount for a package of 8 lessons, or a 15% discount for a package of 12 lessons.
There are no additional fees.
Please text 443-683- 9286 if you need to reschedule your class. Please try to give me as much notice as possible. If weather in your area looks bad, please feel free to call. I will reschedule if there is lightening in your area, however, since we are getting wet anyways, we will still proceed if there is rain (unless it is heavy).
There are no refunds.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching and coaching in 1992! As a small child, I was afraid of the water. As I became more confident, I wanted to help others become confident as well.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with babies from 6 months to adults in their 70s learning to swim for the first time! I have coached elite athletes, dads wanting to train for their first triathlon, small children just starting out in their swim team journey, and everything in between.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You want to find lessons that are developmentally based and built to suit your individual child. Not all instructors are created equally - there is no "one size fits all" in swimming.
Be sure your child is learning a variety of skills. A child in trouble needs a swim bag of skills: front float, back float, rollover, jump in, return to the wall, freestyle...these skills should be practiced and mastered until they are muscle memory. No instructor can promise you "drown-proofing". Even skilled swimmers can get into trouble in the water - cramps, fatigue, a medical issue - but we can prepare as best we can and teach a child (or adult) to "think so you don't sink".
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Ask a potential instructor how they will teach. How does that instructor handle a child who is fearful and crying? How many skills will they teach within the 30 minutes? Max should be 3-4. While this number might seems small, you want to remember that repetition is the key to learning and muscle memory. Be leery of big promises. Every child ( and adult) learns at their own pace.
