Esther Kim
About
Hello! My name is Esther and I am a violinist and violist based in Atlanta, GA. I received a Bachelor’s in Violin Performance and Certificate in Music Business at Kennesaw State University, where I was concertmaster of the KSU Symphony. I also studied viola under the Emory University faculty, and have had summer music residencies on both violin and viola all over the US and in Germany.
I have over 10 years of private teaching experience and have had students from all backgrounds and playing levels. I like to tailor my lessons around the student’s goals, whether they are playing as a hobby or are looking to play seriously. My students have auditioned for and participated in youth orchestras, including Allstate Orchestra and Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra. I have also had working adult students who were looking to pick the violin up again since childhood. All ages, levels, and musical backgrounds are welcome!
In addition to teaching upper string technique, I focus on building the student’s strong musical foundation—including learning to read music, understanding basic music theory, developing their aural skills, and even music history—so that the student has a well-rounded music education. This is a huge part of my teaching philosophy, because more than creating musical geniuses, I want to teach my students how to love and appreciate the music that they play and hear in the world.
