I have had the privilege of listening to the music Joseph plays and it is absolutely incredible. I have heard him play and teach classical, pop and jazz and he has a soul for music. He is a musical genius and plays complex pieces extremely well. He has done a few musical compositions for my company that have captured the interests and attention of several investors. I have also watched him patiently teach music to kids and train on to becoming a great musician. I am impressed at how well he transforms from a musician who loves to play music to a teacher who listens, corrects and polishes the young musicians. I wish I had a child that was young enough to send to him for music lessons! Any child should be really thrilled to be trained by such an amazing individual and musician.

My 8 yr old started his lessons with Joseph 6 months back and he is really enjoying it. I have noticed that he is practicing a lot more at home than he used to with his previous instructor and has started to play more advanced pieces. I am very happy with his progress.

Joseph is very patient as a teacher. He approaches each student according to their ability/skill level. His lessons are structured well. He is very talented and he is an excellent pianist. Its very inspiring to just hear him play the piano. Apart from classical music he also teaches Pop, Jazz, Rock etc. He's the best!!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I use certain Ipad apps to teach beginner students staff notation. I also use some Rhythm dictation apps to teach students rhythm and time signatures in a fun way. I introduce the elements of music to students whenever they play a certain piece from method books. I start of with certain finger exercises or scales for Finger dexterity. I use Faber book for composition depending on the student interest/aptitude as i believe that composition is not only for Adults. I also use the note speller books for the younger children. Some students learn notes and music theory by coloring in their theory books during class time as I explain them basic concepts. For certain new students I play a few of their favorite disney classics on the piano to peak their interest. If a student does not like using apps I simply record some of their Recital pieces on my phone so that they can listen back to themselves after which I provide feedback. For Adults I help them to work on a repertoire of the genre of music they would like to focus on. I can recommend them a curriculum based on their interest, prior experience, available time for practice and technical proficiency. I also help them record their pieces at regular intervals. For beginner Adults I use the Alfreds adult piano book and if they have prior experience I teach them to play popular songs of genres that they prefer. I also can train them to play classics by composers such as like Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky etc

How did you get started teaching?

I started playing Piano at the age of 6. Since the age of 10 I have been playing piano in Church and accompanying the choir. I enjoyed music and I use to always look forward to sitting at the Piano and practicing. I learned piano the traditional way and developed an interest in classical piano. I used to love writing my own music for different orchestral instruments. Thats when I developed an interest in technology to record my compositions using virtual instruments as I didn't have access to many live instrumentalists then. I started teaching in Church and also developed an interest in training the choir. I then started performing live as an accompanist and joined a music school where I taught piano part time and taught private and semi private lessons. I then went on to teach in an international baccalaureate school as a general music teacher where I taught performance, composition and Analysis components of music after which I transitioned to another IB school as Director of Music where I taught primary, Middle and High school

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with younger students as well as adult's. I have experience teaching students between the age groups of 5- 65.
