About

I have been teaching piano since I was a freshman in college, majoring in Music Education at the University of Kentucky, more than 30 years ago. I love teaching and seeing my students progress in their abilities to play piano and grow to love it as I do. My lessons are fun and my students work hard to learn. Our recitals are exciting and everyone enjoys the opportunities to perform. Because it is the basis of learning music (and because I love it as well) lessons are traditional and based on classical training as well as popular and jazz and other styles that we (the students and I) enjoy. Since 2001 I have taught my piano lessons in a studio at Mount Paran Church.

Miss Claudette did a great job adapting her teaching style and materials to my son’s level. This was really key in keeping him engaged. She made learning fun and the books she started him with were perfect for his kindergarten age. She continues to work with him 3 years later and he still looks forward to piano lessons, which is a miracle in itself.

Claudette is fabulous! Two of my children have been under Claudette’s tutelage for nearly 5 years now. I highly recommend Claudette, is she a fantastic piano teacher who adapts her style to keep students engaged; she is encouraging and firm at the same time. I really appreciate that she also works with students on overall music knowledge of classical pieces and composers. During COVID Claudette quickly adapted to video sessions - I didn’t have high expectations of how effective they’d be, but both children continued to really progress and looked forward to the weekly interaction.

Miss Claudette is an outstanding piano teacher. My son (13) and my daughter (10) have been learning from Miss Claudette for 5 years, since we moved from LA to Atlanta.
She is very patient and very respectful of children. She truly understands the learning process required to gain a proficiency in piano and in music. Miss Claudette has raised 5 children of her own and she loves to nurture curious and developing music minds.
She is a very thoughtful teacher who puts a lot of time and care into how each child learns differently. She adapts her style of teaching to the student and their current skill level. My son and daughter are entirely different learners. It is remarkable how she is able to customize her teaching and adapt to their individual learning styles.
She presents a fine balance so my children are challenged and progressing but not overwhelmed. My children love their weekly lessons with Miss Claudette and are always motivated to practice by just a few kind words of encouragement. (It’s incredible actually).
Miss Claudette’s manner of teaching piano is so wonderful and refreshing! She’s patient and supportive, but she also knows how to motivate her students. She is great at building confidence in their practice but always seems to keep their lessons fun and engaging. She presents a fine balance so that my son and daughter are challenged with their piano lessons and progressing but they are not overwhelmed.
Claudette is an amazing piano teacher and person. She is very passionate about her students and is truly dedicated to their piano proficiency. She truly cares about my children’s education and well being and the cool part is that ‘they’ know how much she cares about them.

She is an incredible teacher and extremely patient and caring with children. My son started classes with her when he was five years old. Everything he knows about music came from her. She is an amazing piano player as well and the recitals she puts together for her students are simply delightful. To us, Ms. Claudette is a part of our family.

Frequently asked questions

I teach students ages 5 years old through adult.  I find out their former involvement in music and what are their interests in music.  I introduce them to the piano by seeing that they recognize the pattern of keys. Next I introduce them to the concept of high and low in pitch.  Then I introduce them to the appropriate book for their study of piano.  Proceeding from there I encourage them with the extreme importance of daily practice.

I have a degree in Music Education, emphasis in piano,  from the University of Kentucky.  I attend piano workshops and continue to research music and piano teaching.  Of the utmost importance is my experience in teaching and how I am continually adapting my teaching to each student’s abilities and capabilities.

Private lessons are $55 for 45-minute lessons once a week.

Students enrolled in private lessons with me attend Master-Your-Piano group classes a few times a year.  Those classes are $10

I started teaching piano by taking beginning students for whom my high school piano teacher had no availability. I continued teaching while I was studying piano through college. After some years off, I have taught lessons at Mount Paran Church since 2001.
