What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I am a mentor/friend that helps guide your journey into music. It usually takes 8-12 months to develop the necessary muscles for sustained practice as well as to form the good practice routines necessary to achieve the long-term goal of piano mastery. We start with the piano/music basics and hand techniques and focus on reading music for the first 4 months. We continue through the piano basics for another 4 months still focusing on good technique but start moving through some beginner theory concepts. Once we get through the basics we will have a good understanding of basic theory, some confidence reading music, and a slew of warm-up exercises to keep our chops in peak condition. Next up, it's time for exploration into the vast array of musical literature. We will build our repertoire from the baroque, classical, romantic, and on into the modern periods. We will also look at atonal, impressionist, rag, and jazz as well as movie scores and pop songs.
