Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We meet for 30 minutes every week except holiday weeks. I design the lessons around learning to read music, proper technique, and theory using a combination of music that I choose and songs/pieces the student would like to learn. After a solid foundation in the ability to reading music is achieved, students will learn to read chord changes and lead sheets as well.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been playing/studying music most of my life. 28 years of playing and performing. The majority of my training is in Classical piano, learning pieces by the classical masters such as Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Rachmanioff etc., and in my early 20's I began studying Jazz/blues piano extensively. Sprinkle in a lot of pop, rock, and gospel, and I can pretty much teach you to play any style you want! I have played for weddings, parties, in jazz and swing bands, church groups, rock/blues bands, played numberous recitals and solo performances, as well as singing in choirs, jazz bands, and vocal jazz groups.
I have a Bachelor's of Music Degree from California State University Stanislaus
