Ultimtately, music has allowed me to connect with people. People are great vessels and spirits for creativity. Whether it's lessons or performing together, music making and music lessons allow me to connect my love for people with my love for music.
On the piano, specifically, I have been drawn into the instrument since I was a kid. I love how it is a vessel for communicating messages, especially as I work on writing and arranging songs and compositions. I even now play other keyboard instruments, whether synthesizers, Fender Rhodes, organs, or mallet instruments.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always make sure to have students listen to music first, especially since music is a very aural and ear-based art. I remind them of the joy for the music and the importance of that. After that, based on their experience level, I will ask a few questions and assess where they are musically. Even with this, I am patient and get to know the new student over time.
If they are a pure beginner, we will work on just finding the notes on the piano and get comfortable with how the instrument works. I will even guide them through a few notes that will become a melody of a song they are familiar with.
For all students, I find out what their musical taste is, whether it is Disney songs, top 40 hits, hip hop, or folk music. No matter what, I make sure the lesson is about their growth, goals, and interests.
