Piano teaching has been my passion for more than 25 years. I've been teaching students of various levels and ages using a specific method of combining Russian piano school elements and American piano pedagogical methods. I adapt my teaching method to each student depending on his/her level and skills. Each student usually receives one lesson per week - either 30, 45 or 60 min. Most students participate at the local competitions and perform at the recital once a year.
After moving from Russia to USA I continued my professional development, graduating from the Manhattan school of Music (MM, 2001 and Professional Studies Diploma, 2002) and from Northwestern university Bienen School of Music (Doctor of Music in Piano Performance 2012). Currently, I am on the faculty at the Merit School of Music in Chicago and hold position of the Piano Department Chair. For more information please visit my website at:

Bio: Elena Doubovitskaya, pianist
A native of Russia and a resident of Geneva, IL, Elena Doubovitskaya performed her debut recital in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall as part of Artists International Presentations, followed by numerous engagements in the Unted States, Germany, Austria, Italy, the Czech Republic and Russia. Dr. Doubovitskaya's accomplishments include awards from Artists International Presentations, the Seattle International Piano Competition among others. She has performed at the East-West Music Festival in Germany, Prague International Piano Master Classes, Tanglewood, Sewannee and Hot Springs music festivals. Dr. Doubovitskaya was invited to participate in Master Classes giving by acclaimed pianists Emanuel Ax, James Levine, Leif Ove Andsnes, Garrick Ohlsson, and Menahem Pressler.
In addition to her solo career Ms. Doubovitskaya have a great interest in collaborating with other musicians. Sharing their love for piano duo repertoire, Elena Doubovitskaya and her friend and colleague Dr.Svetlana Belsky formed the EStrella Piano Duo which frequently performs around the US, including concerts in new York City, Philadelphia, Washington DC and around the Midwest. In 2016 they completed their first tour in China and had their Canadian debut in spring of 2017. In addition to EStrella Piano Duo, Dr. Doubovitskaya is a member of a chamber contemporary ensemble Lakeshore Rush and four pianists group Pianissimo!.
Dr. Doubovitskaya received her undergraduate degree in piano performance from the Ural State "Mussorgsky" Conservatory in Ekaterinburg, Russia, followed by a Master's Degree from the Manhattan School of Music and Doctorate Degree from Northwestern University, studying under Ursula Oppens. In addition to an active performance career, Dr. Doubovitskaya currently serves as a piano department chair at the Merit School of Music in Chicago and frequently invited to judge music competitions in Chicago and surrounding area.
I enjoy working with students at all levels and take pride in their accomplishment. Each student has a variety skills and talents hidden inside and it is always fascinating to uncover all those abilities and teach students how to use it during the lesson, practice session, performance or competition.
