Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I customize each lesson to the individual student, focusing lessons on music that they will have fun learning. I am process-oriented, and incorporate fundamentals and ear training into all lessons. Depending on the student's experience level, a typical first lesson will be focused on getting to know the student's goals, introducing some broad technical concepts, and doing a lot of playing!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BM in Jazz Trumpet Performance from Oberlin Conservatory. I am the Program Director for MUSIC Inc., a non-profit organization that provides free music lessons and orchestral training to students on the West side of Chicago. I have taught privately and in groups through organizations including MUSIC Inc, Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, and Stanford Jazz Workshop.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $50 for an hour-long lesson, $40 for a 45-minute lesson, or $30 for a half hour. Depending on your location, I can come to you for an additional travel stipend.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages and experience levels.
