About
Hello! My name is Daniel Olsson and I am a musician, instructor, songwriter, and producer with over a decade's worth of experience in lessons, performance, songwriting, and producing.
With extensive experience in music education and in the music, recording, and touring industry, I have been teaching music lessons to students of varying ages and skill levels for several years. I take a fun and intuitive approach to lessons, starting with your musical interests, and crafting the lesson around your personal music taste. I teach not only the basics like music and chart reading, but also intertwine ear training and music theory naturally in the songs and pieces we learn.

The aspect of music I enjoy the most is the endless creativity. Whether I am teaching an instrument, writing a song, or performing a concert, I love the feeling of CREATING in the moment. I enjoy the freedom of expression in music, and I love that I can share that with students and other fellow musicians no matter where we are. Music is a universal language. It is something that people from all different backgrounds relate to without even saying a word in a spoken language. It's hard to find anyting that achieves something simliar to that, and that's one reason I enjoy creating, teaching, and performing music.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My goal is have every new student I teach playing a song by the end of the first lesson. I always start with the musical interests of new students. We talk about what music they like, and then I ask them to show me what they know on their instrument. This helps me evaluate their skill level, and then we start learing from there. I make sure knowledge of the basics is understood, and then move on to playing music.
We pick a song of the student's choice, and then learn the chords and arrangement from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have almost a decade's worth of experience in teaching music lessons. I graduated with my bachelor's degree in Music Business and Entreperneurship in 2018.
I toured the country as a lead guitarist and piano player for four years, and have performed in many different concert venues ranging from arenas to small clubs. I have also performed on radio stations including Sirius XM in New York, NY, and other stations in Chicago, IL.
I have written songs and produced for over a decade combined, and have produced for different artists around the country.

What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages at varying skill levels. My aim in teaching is to meet students at their current ability and grow their skill from there!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When looking for a music teacher, make it your priority to find someone you are comfortable with. Teachers shouldn't make you feel bad or discouraged - make sure you look for someone who applauds what you are doing well while gently instructing you on what you could improve upon.
