About
I have been a private piano teacher in Wilmette, IL for 29 years. My main goal is to develop a love of music in each student. I will teach them the fundamentals of piano playing, note reading, and help them to enjoy it at the same time. I have been employed by some parents as a "rehabilitator" for their children who have experienced some burn-out from their earlier piano lessons. I have an annual spring recital and 2 group lessons for my students, prior to the recital. I also teach students of all ages--from age 6 to adults.
I have a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Hawaii, and a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Northwestern University.
I am an active member of the North Shore Music Teachers Association and served on the board for over 20 years. In 2015, I was named as a Member of the Year.
I enjoy working with all of my students, helping them overcome the difficult sections of their pieces so that they can master and enjoy playing them. I also learn from all of my students--what works with some students may not work for others, and they might have different learning styles, too.
I also enjoy teaching both children and adults. The challenges they face can be the same, but the approach may differ. Adults tend to catch on to the concepts faster, but may have some difficulty with the physical aspect of playing it, where the children might not catch on to the concepts as quickly, but not have as much difficulty with the playing. Just seeing my students' eyes light up in joy when they master a piece makes it all worthwhile. After all, if playing music doesn't bring you joy, why would you want to do it?
