Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The most important steps in building a program with a new student are to
1.) determine the current level of proficiency
2.) to determine the student's goals
3.) to develop a plan that helps the student to best reach their goal
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have played piano for 18 year and have taught piano and theory for 10 years (from beginner lessons to college level classes) I have traveled for 4 years as an accompanist for college singing groups, and I have been a church pianist for 16 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are scheduled for 30 minutes each week (more advanced students may want longer sessions) and are $30 per lesson
How did you get started teaching?
As a young child my parents strongly encouraged me to study piano, and by the time I was a teenager, I had fallen in love with it! I began teaching younger students when I was just a teenager and have loved getting to share my passion for music ever since!
What types of students have you worked with?
Over the years I have worked with just about every type of student! Ages of my current and former students range from 3-65. I have also taught music students at the college level.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I have had many instructors through my years of study, and I can tell you that those who have been most helpful to me have been those that have taken time to understand my strengths, weaknesses, and goals. Find someone who understands your purpose in learning, and the relationship will be much more profitable for you!
